I have been a lifelong rock hound since the age of 16. I grew up in Western Colorado; one of the most famous places for rock hounding and did not realize it. My friends and I were just ordinary kids, looking for dinosaur bones and petrified wood. Then I was able to take what I found and learned how to make something spectacular for other people; it is the happiest thing I have ever done. I can do it 24 hours a day and still enjoy it.
One of my goals is to help promote rock hounding; for younger people to have a better understanding of the earth - where these came from, how they got there, and what you can do with them. It is a lot of work to go out in the field and try to find the best thing you can and not be discouraged. To go out into the high desert of the Western United States is a spiritual part of my life. I can crawl out of the back of my truck, smell the sage, and it is just this wonderful experience. I take only what I need and leave the rest for another young rock hound to discover.
I want people to appreciate what has come out of the earth and what I can do with it. I cut the most unique shapes I can find that highlight this piece of rock. I hope you will enjoy them as much as I do.
